Onsite Water Supply Systems
The Environmental Health Division enforces State of Michigan regulations regarding the construction and use of drinking water supplies. The current Michigan Water Well Construction and Pump Installation Code (Part 127 of Public Act 368 of 1978, as amended) and administrative rules became effective on April 21, 1994. Any well drilled since this date is required to meet the minimum regulations defined by this code.
An inspection of a newly drilled water well is required by this office to assure code compliance. Water samples will also be collected and analyzed to assure safe drinking water. If you would like to sample your own water supply, please contact this office at (989) 743-2390 for more information.
Well Permit Applications
A residential water supply serves one single-family home. Application (PDF)
A Type III water supply is a privately owned water supply that services less than 25 people or has more than one but less than 15 service connections. Examples include: Duplexes, small apartment complexes, small grocery or retail stores. Application (PDF)
A Type II Noncommunity water supply is a privately owned water system that provides water for drinking or household purposes to 25 or more persons at least 60 days per year or has 15 or more service connections. A few examples are: schools, day care facilities, churches, restaurants, highway rest areas, and campgrounds. Application (PDF)
